Crazy Frog Tops the U.K. Pop Chart
Thursday June 9, 2005
The success of novelty music on the pop charts in the U.K. is well known. Just a month ago 70's adult contemporary singer Tony Christie completed a 7 week reign at the top of the pop singles chart with "Is This the Way To Amarillo" helped by a video appearance from comedian Peter Kay. Now, the novelty has returned as Crazy Frog leaps to the top of the chart with a version of Harold Faltermeyer's instrumental classic "Axel F." The song features portions of the Crazy Frog ringtone throughout and is considered the first hit song to originate from a cell phone ringtone.
The video for the Crazy Frog version of "Axel F" features the frog in a digitally animated chase sequence. Check the video out for yourself at the official Crazy Frog ringtone site. Crazy Frog mania is so strong in the U.K. it has even prevented Coldplay from reaching the top of the chart with their single "Speed Of Sound."
