The End for Gorillaz?

Saturday April 8, 2006

Is the end coming near for the world's favorite animated band Gorillaz? Rumors have been rampant during the band's latest concert performances in New York this past week. The concerts began with a series of technical glitches that made the shows underwhelming. However, by the close of the shows on April 6, 2006, all was running smoothly with a raft of guest performers including De La Soul, Ike Turner, Neneh Cherry, Shaun Ryder, Roots Manuva, Martina Topley-Bird, and Dennis Hopper.

Unfortunately, for Gorillaz founders, group founder Damon Albarn dropped a bombshell in interviews with Britain's BBC 6. Albarn was quoted saying ""At the moment we're like, that's probably the last album we make, I don't think we could make a better album than Demon Days really, for what this is and how it works." The implication seemed to be that the project had run its course. However, Albarn did leave open some hope with the comment "It's quite a hip hop thing to retire and come back you know."
