Celebrating Pop Moms: Carnie Wilson

As a countdown to Mother's Day May 14th, I will be celebrating a pop mom, a pop music artist who also happens to be a mom, each day this week. Today's pop mom is Carnie Wilson.
Carnie Wilson, daughter of the legendary Beach Boys songwriter-producer Brian Wilson, has had an impressive musical career on her own. As part of the trio Wilson Phillips, she sang on 3 #1 pop singles ("Hold On," "Release Me," and "You're in Love") in the early 1990's. Since the group broke up she has recorded with her sister Wendy as the Wilsons and as a solo artist.
Carnie Wilson has also become a hero to another group of people separate from the music industry. She has suffered from obesity much of her adult life. Wilson eventually underwent successful gastric bypass surgery in an effort to save her own life. Through the benefits of the surgery and continued vigilance at proper diet and exercise, she continues to be an inspiration for many and supports efforts to educate sufferers of morbid obesity about the options they have available.
A little over a year ago Carnie Wilson entered a new stage in her life when, at the age of 36, she gave birth to Lola. She is the first child born for Carnie and her husband Rob Bonfiglio. Engulfed in the wonder of being a mother, Carnie Wilson was inspired to begin recording again. She has now released a new album A Mother's Gift: Lullabies From the Heart which she says "is Lola, her spirit." The album features a duet between Carnie Wilson and her father Brian.
Please join me in celebrating pop mom Carnie Wilson.
