Review: Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man
Tuesday June 13, 2006

It is already burning up the radio airwaves, and it looks like Christina Aguilera could be well on her way to her first #1 solo pop single in the U.S. in 6 years. Read the review to find out why this may be the start of the pop comeback of the year.

It hasn’t been 6 years since her last number one. It’s been 5 years. Her number ones: Genie (99), What a Girl Wants (00), Come on Over (00), and Lady Marmalade (01). LM was her last number one so it’s only been five years. Although, “Beautiful” SHOULD have gone to number one. And I disagree with your comments about Stripped not being a good CD; it was brilliant.
Thanks for the correction. The intent was to say first solo pop single since 2000. That has been corrected.
DJ Premier wrecked this. I like Christina but she needs to extricate herself from the clutches of melisma.
DO YOUR THING HONEY!!! Amazing!!! Beyonce who???????
honestly, “stripped” was album of the year for me. it was one of the best records i’ve ever heard, and still is. i know how personally it’s touched so many people i know…i really, really disagree with “stripped” being bad in any way. sigh..i dont know how else to put it.
and in your review, what exactly is the “returning from significant disappointment” you refer to?? i’m confused. is that…”stripped” as well? because “beautiful” was probably her most acclaimed hit..”dirrty” is one of the undeniably hottest club tracks in history…and to save space, her last 3 singles have touched…affected..thousands if not millions of listeners worldwide..they’re amazing messages. she GIVES amazing messages. however, the only message you seem to treat with respect is the institution of marraige, unabashedly loving one man and one man only. life is more complicated than that, isnt it? and that complexity is what makes art
I don’t deny the importance of ‘Stripped’ to many fans.
My statement of “disappointing” refers to less than half the sales of her debut album, lack of a #1 hit single when her first album had 3, and distinctly unenthusiastic reviews from most major media outlets. “Bewildering shifts in styles” refers to a 20-song album that I think could have easily been edited down to 10. However, I believe those who love the album need not worry about any of that…continue to love it. We’re all touched in different ways by music.
As for me stating something specific about acceptability of types of relationships, I think you are reading a lot into my comment “Obviously, marriage has been good so far for Aguilera. This single is one of the hottest expressions of joy in a committed relationship in recent pop history. ‘Ain’t no other man’ indeed.” that simply isn’t there. Christina herself beams in press interviews at any opportunity to talk about her current relationship.
I strongly support any individual’s right to share in fulfilling relationships – bi, straight, or gay, and in whatever configuration they choose.
