Local Prosecutors Keep an Eye on Madonna's Concert Tour in Germany

Madonna continues to draw attention and scorn for the portion of her current concert show in which she performs the song "Live To Tell" (original video) while appearing to be crucified on a lighted cross. The resulting controversy has followed the tour since it kicked off last May.

The latest wrinkle is that German authorities have announced that they will keep an eye on the tour when it rolls into Dusseldorf this weekend. The prosecutors believe that her show could be understood as offending religious beliefs. They also believe Madonna may be protected from any legal jeopardy on free speech grounds.

Perhaps most interesting, the legal authorities do not plan to watch the show in person. They will depend instead on media reports of what takes place.
