Al Gore Announces Live Earth, a Global Warming Live 8

Thursday February 15, 2007

Former Vice-President Al Gore has announced, in his continuing efforts to combat the impact of global warming, that he is sponsoring a 24-hour series of concerts on all 7 continents to raise awareness of the dangers of global warming. The event will be titled Live Earth and will take place on July 7, 2007 (7-7-07). The concert is part of a larger effort titled S.O.S. (Save Our Selves) - The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis. The event will be modeled on the Live 8 concerts.

Organizers hope to reach a worldwide audience of 2 billion people. Vice-President Gore said:

"In order to solve the Climate Crisis, we have to reach billions of people. We are launching SOS and Live Earth to begin a process of communication that will mobilize people all over the world to take action. The Climate Crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained global movement. We hope to jump-start that movement right here, right now, and take it to a new level on July 7, 2007."

The concerts will take place in Brazil, Shanghai, Japan, Johannesburg, London, Sydney, and the Eastern United States. Among the music artists who have already signed on to take part in the concerts:

If all the celeberties are really that concerned about clobal warming then maybe they should look at themselves before they start making the everyday person feel bad about taking one holiday, or driving to work. Maybe they should curtail their trips by 25 – 30%, use public transportation and not big expensive limos, drive practical cars and not Humvees, or give 25% of their massive earnings to the cause. Why ask the governments to give their money (that is raised by taxing the middle and lower class workers) to fund this cause they they so visually support. Put your money where your mouth is and make a difference.
How about cancelling all the glitzy celeb parties for one year, that should reduce un-necessary global travel enough to make a small difference in this global warming bandwagon to make a few people happy.

I hope they power the stages with renewable energy otherwise they may be causing more problems than they will fix
