In Appreciation of Paul McCartney's Post-Beatle Career

Thursday June 7, 2007

Early sales figures indicate that Paul McCartney's new solo album Memory Almost Full may debut at #1 on the album chart next week. For those who watch the charts, this would be Sir Paul's first #1 album in 25 years. The last time he topped the chart was with 1982's Tug of War which featured the #1 smash duet with Stevie Wonder, "Ebony & Ivory."

Few pop artists have been on the receiving end of as much scorn from critics and commentators as Paul McCartney. His music has been accused of being lazy, insipid, sloppy, beneath his talent, etc., etc. However, pop music fans have responded by sending 9 singles, recorded solo, with his wife Linda, or his group Wings, to #1 on the pop charts. 13 more have landed in the top 10. 7 albums have reached the peak as well. Paul McCartney was rewarded by being elected to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

McCartney has responded to his critics as well. Perhaps the most effective response remains the words from his 1976 #1 pop hit "Silly Love Songs." An excerpt:

Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs
And whats wrong with that?
Id like to know, cause here I go again

Enjoy these moments from Paul McCartney's long career providing great songs for pop music fans for nearly 50 years:

Is it true that all CDs sold at Starbucks will not be counted towards the charts tabulation of CDs sold? Seems very strange considering it is a Starbucks label release and Starbucks is a major vendor/promotor for the CD.

I think the sales not counting only applies in Britain.

I have not had a chance to hear the new CD that Paul McCartney just released. but I’ve heard that it’s really good!! and I also heard that it’s being promoted by Starbucks! what a neat idea!
I grew up listening to Paul McCartney’s music - the stuff he’s done with the Beatles, Wings and all his solo things too. oh yeah, and that Ebony and Ivory with Stevie Wonder too!

I just purchased the Deluxe Edition, but haven’t had the chance to listen to it yet.I’ve heard a few sample songs which blew me away! It’s too bad that the ones purchased in Starbucks are not counted for placement on all charts! the sales anywhere else, are counted.Sir Paul is/always will be a natural music genius!
