Elliott Yamin Is 3rd American Idol Alum to Make Pop Radio Top 5

Monday August 6, 2007

It's been a quiet, long, and slow climb, but Elliott Yamin's single "Wait for You", the oldest single on the chart still making upward progress, climbed to the #4 spot this past week in pop radio airplay. This puts Yamin in the elite group of only 3 past American Idol contestants to reach the top 5 in pop radio airplay. The other 2 are Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry with his band Daughtry. It is unlikely, but there is a chance that "Wait for You" could climb all the way to #1.

Elliott Yamin's debut self-titled album is currently resting at #84 after over 4 months on the album chart. The debut albums of both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee, the two competitors on American Idol who finished higher than Yamin, disappeared from the chart some time back with neither spending as long on the chart as Elliott Yamin.

(1) Sharon says:

Elliott is a very talented singer—saw him at the Bowery back in May–awesome show. Next time he is in town you do not want to miss his show. If you thought the songs were great on the CD, hearing him live is even better! Not too many singers actually sing better live–he does–phenomanal!

Sharon’s comments are spot on!!! He is seriously the best “live” singer I have heard in YEARS!!!!
“..The voice is so clean it’s Plus 20db Hot.. True Quam.”
…and you should hear the cd!

Elliott’s song is really a beautifully sung love song from the heart.Elliott has a way of delivering a song with feeling and love mixed in. His Cd is awesome. Elliott deserves # 1. No big promotion either. Elliott made it this far with his talent.

(4) Kim says:

Elliott is the ultimate performer. I had the pleasure of seeing him in NYC last spring. I had never really heard him before. WOW–can this kid sing. His career should be lasting not unlike Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder…etc. He is the real thing! Do not miss his show if he is in town.

Love Elliott. Been a fan of his since AI. With a voice like his I knew he’d make it big and have staying power. Couldn’t happen to a sweeter guy. You go Elliott!!

(7) Donna says:

He so richly deserves the success. His voice is exceptional, his personality endearing and I think he’s found his stride in both live performances and recording.
A long career is ahead for Yamin!

(8) Karin says:

Elliott is a welcome voice on Pop radio. I’d like to know how this kind of quality ever made it on TOP 40?

(9) Heather says:

Why mention Taylor and Katherine or was that somehow suppose to boost Elliott’s accomplishments? Because when I look at those contestants that finished lower on Idol like Kellie Pickler and Chris Daughtry I see them mopping the floor with this guy when it comes to sales. That might say something for Kellie’s and Chris’accomplishments but it sure doesn’t say much for Elliotts.

I can only find his song one one station, its’ more of the “younger” top tunes of “today”. For us Elliott Yamin is filling the gap of a blue eyed soul & R&B which has so long been missed, but wishing he was on the airwaves more plus wishing he will release another song off the CD i.e. Find A Way or Movin On. Hoping he teams up w/ some of the more popular young R&B artist, however they can’t outsing Elliott Yamin. Wish he would expound on his Iraqi/Jewish hertiage, thinking that is amazing. Hoping his “holiday album” for Target isn’t only Christmas music but hopefully world music which would represent many rather than one viewpoint.

(11) Sharon says:

for Heather—since Chris, Kellie, Taylor and Katharine have all had major label backing and Elliott’s CD DID NOT, it does say quite a bit about the talent behind the CD. It is moving up without the extreme exposure Chris and Katharine have had and the exposure Taylor and Kellie have had. They are all doing well and certainly not mopping Elliott up. His CD has been out the least amount of time. Are you a upset fan of someone else? Sounds like it maybe.

(12) YoDaddy says:

I saw Elliott SF at Slim’s and he seriously rocked the place. Blown away. Plus, he loves what he is doing and is very humble and appreciative of all his fans. He is a star and will get bigger with his talent. It’s just a matter of song selection as Simon and Randy have taught us. Wait for You with Stargate Producing is a big-time hit but there are 4 or 5 more on his album just as good including A Whiter Shade of Pale which I love. When Elliott sings, you hear all the words.

(13) G Nelson says:

Heather..maybe the fact that Taylor, Kat and Elliott were in a dead heat on final 3 results, only separated by a few tenths, is why he is using them in a comparison. And Sharon is right on when she makes the point that Chris, Kellie, Taylor and Kat all have the backing of a major label. Elliott does not have this kind of backing and promotion, he is out there doing it all himself. That’s what makes his success all the more amazing. Elliott’s CD has only been out for 4 months. How long have the other 4 been out? Do the math! I predict that this extremely talented young man will be singing to us for a long time.
