The Bo Bice We All Loved

By , About.com GuideOctober 28, 2007

Follow me on:

Back in 2005, for the first time, a rocker made it to the American Idol season finale. His name was Bo Bice. The show's fans loved him for his rugged rock vocals and good looks. Unfortunately, when it came time to record his first post-Idol album, the commercial music world took over. The resulting album The Real Thing was a watered down version of the real Bo that ultimately didn't seem really like him and failed commercially as well.

Fortunately, Bo Bice is back on the right track with a new album See the Light which is available for download from your favorite online music store. He has confidently returned to his Southern rock roots, and it's your opportunity to get acquainted with the real Bo all over again. It's great to welcome him back. Check out the video for the first single "Witness."

Thanks for posting this. I’m a fan of Bo Bice since Season 4 and along with other fans we are indeed very happy with this cd. Happy actually is an understatement especially since Bo has really worked hard on this in spite of being sidelined for a while due to his surgeries. See The Light shows Bo real talent shining through not only because he wrote and co-wrote the songs but even played some instruments there to. He has great collaborators as well including Black Crowes’ drummer Steve Gorman. I’ve been listening to his other songs on his myspace and they’re just as great sounding. Every one who digs southern rock or classic rock should get one.

It’s true that Bo Bice’s first cd was pretty awful and this one is, well, less awful. It’s really kind of this reviewer to say that Bo is on the right track but at this rate he’s never going to make his connection. The music on this cd is just not very interesting. If you’re into Southern Rock, yeah , you might play it for a week or so, then go back to your seventies re-issues.Or hit the bars. This kind of rock sounds best live, after half a dozen tall cool ones.

Fortunately for Bo not everyone suffers from Shirley’s short attention span.

The video and song is a been there, done that cliché. He voice also sounds forced on all of the songs from his cd except for one or two.

This CD is “The Bo Bice We All Loved” as your headline states… and MORE! The American Idol audience never knew how much more that Bo had to offer. His RCA CD disguised his magnificent voice with too much studio processing, and the songs they made him sing did not allow him to be himself. Due to the fact that Bo now has his own record label, his amazing voice shines through the way it was meant to sound.

Each song on this album has its own unique delicious flavor. Bo feeds us what we’ve been hungry for all this time, and we finally feel satisfied. It’s music from Bo’s heart and soul.

I’m in awe of how Bo was able to rise above his life-threatening health condition, serious illness and hospitalizations while continuing to tour, three serious emergency surgeries, and near-deaths. Yet, through all that, he never complained or made excuses. He was always grateful for opportunities that came his way, maintained his sense of humor, positive outlook, and he continued to work hard. He is a wonderful soul and an awesome talent.

Yes, the video and song “Witness” have an intentional retro feel to reflect the kind of music Bo has always loved, but they have a modern twist. I wish the very best for Bo.

This Cd is a poor version of real southern rock. Trite lyrics, steel guitars with corny sounding backup vocals and the use of only 2 cords do not sound too raunchy to me. #6 I too want to hear what makes it sound raunchy.

Well, I really liked Bo on AI. Loved his “grown up” rocker style and his heartfelt vocals. Unfortunately his first post AI CD was the invention of many people and while it was good, it wasn’t what I had expected to hear. Now I’ve given this new CD a listen several times over the last few days and am very pleased with it. In my opinion it’s a good blend of southern rock and country that has been modernized to appeal to many listeners. I don’t get into the whole good review, bad review, love him, hate him thing. I’ve got my own set of ears and my own personal tastes in music. This CD has found a place among my favorites and will be there for a long time to come. I must agree with the writer in this case. This is the Bo Bice we all loved. I for one am happy he’s back and I look forward to hearing lots more from him.

When I picked up Carrie’s CD I decided to get Bo’s. I was very pleasantly surprised. I love the rockin out, soulful, bluesy sound. It has some of everything. I wish Bo the very best with his release. Everyone is’nt going to like the same thing. What some of you think is great I may think stinks.

Well, it’s so good to hear a writer who has something positive to say about our Bo Bice. Bo has done a fabulous job on his new Album and singles. He has given himself and his fans what we’ve been waiting for.

Thank you Bill Lamb for this!

This is he kind of music you can here on any given night in the little bars in Nashville. I’m sure Bo can get some gigs with his music at the local bars.

I agree whole heartedly with your review, that this album is the real Bo Bice. I love SEE THE LIGHT! I wouldn’t expect everyone to “get it,” as there are quite a few recording stars out there these days that I don’t get, and whose albums I wouldn’t buy, but I am so happy to have added SEE THE LIGHT to my southern rock collection.

I have seen shirley and her other persona type the same thing over and over again – exact same lines on different reviews about Bo’s new cd. We already know she she’s a hater and she does not have to repeat that. She seems to make sure she puts her input in every possible review. Time to think of new tricks. And hey a lot of bands played in bars before reaching the top.
