Oscar Buzz for John Mayer's "Say"?

By , About.com Guide   January 7, 2008

Follow me on:

I was approached approximately a month ago by a music fan who believed this song may be in the running for an Academy Award this year. It's a bittersweet song for a bittersweet film, and it's generating Oscar buzz elsewhere, too. When the nominations for the 80th Academy Awards are announced January 22, 2008, will John Mayer be among the 5 chosen to compete for Best Song?

"Say" is the first song John Mayer has written that was commissioned for a specific project. It is used in the film The Bucket List starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. The film is a story of two terminally ill men determined to complete a wish list of things to do before they die. The movie opens widely in the US January 11, 2008. The video for "Say" features a number of scenes from the film.

To check out the competition, see this complete list of 59 Songs eligible for Best Song consideration at the Academy Awards.

It’s kind of repetitive. Underemphasis on kind of.
