Foxboro Hot Tubs aka Green Day?

Thursday January 24, 2008

On December 8, 2007, a 6-song EP titled Stop Drop and Roll!!! appeared online to download for free. It was released by a supposedly unsigned band named Foxboro Hot Tubs. Speculation immediately began that the group is actually the 3 members of Green Day in disguise. One of the key reasons for the suspicion is that the Foxboro Hot Tubs lead vocalist is an audio dead ringer for Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. The group have remained quiet about any of the speculation while reportedly continuing to work on a follow up album to their multi-platinum smash American Idiot.

The music of Foxboro Hot Tubs is a reminder of the glories of 60's garage rock. The EP even includes dialogue samples from classic 60's movies to introduce each song. The free downloads of the music have been shut down, but 3 songs may still be heard at the Foxboro Hot Tubs MySpace page. This past week the track "Mother Mary" made its debut on the Billboard modern rock chart.

If Foxboro Hot Tubs turns out to be Green Day in disguise, most fans think it will not be the first time the band has engaged in a similar deception. Although the band have never confirmed the fact, it's widely accepted that the new wave band The Network, who released the album Money Money 2020 in 2003, were actually Green Day.

How does it appear on any Billboard chart?
Through radio airplay I guess. Certainly not through any sales figures…
