Kid Rock's Smash "All Summer Long" Still Unavailable for Digital Download

With the breakaway radio hit "All Summer Long" entering the top 10 in pop radio airplay and nearing the top of the pop singles charts around the world, a pop music fan might wonder why Kid Rock's song has failed to even crack the top 25 on the overall US pop singles chart. The reason is that Kid Rock is part of an elite group of music superstars that has included the Beatles, Garth Brooks, and AC/DC.
All of these artists have resisted having their music made available for sale through digital downloading. Kid Rock refuses to have his music made available on iTunes, the industry's leading digital store. He says the service is based on "an old system, where iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don't give it to the artists." Consequently, "All Summer Long" receives no sales credit in its attempt to move up the pop singles chart. The Billboard pop singles chart is likely failing to really reflect the overall popularity of the song. Perhaps a better indication is the fact that Rock and Roll Jesus, the album featuring "All Summer Long" and the only legal venue for buying the song, has climbed into the top 5 of the Billboard album chart 9 months after its initial release.

It seems Kid Rock has different standards for different markets. If he’s against having his music available for digital downloads, then why is All Summer Long available at the UK iTunes store where it is #3 this week on the bestsellers’ list?
