Mexican Pop Group RBD is Breaking Up
They managed to land inside the top 20 of the US album chart and place a single in the US top 40. Both are true rarities for Mexican pop bands. The group of 3 young women and 3 young men known as RBD came together as an outgrowth of the popular Mexican telenovela Rebelde. The band's debut album Rebelde, released in 2004, went to #1 across Latin America and even made its way into the top 100 of the US album chart.
Explosive success continued at home and in other Latin American nations. With the 4th studio album Rebels, released in late 2006, the group included English language songs for the first time. The single "Tu Amor" was promoted to US pop radio, and it eventually reached the top 40. RBD were unable to repeat that single success, but the group has remained one of the most popular of Mexican pop bands around the world. However, an announcement released on August 15, 2008 indicates the group will soon be no more. A farewell tour will be conducted in 2009, and then RBD will disband.
