Metallica Return in Fine Form With "The Day That Never Comes"

Wednesday August 27, 2008

It has been 12 years since metal heroes Metallica reached the top 10 of the pop singles chart with "Until It Sleeps." It has been 11 years since the band's last top 40 hit. However, don't count them out. "The Day That Never Comes, " the first single from the upcoming album Death Magnetic is truly epic in scope. Kicking off with slow, introspective guitars, over it's 7 minutes "The Day That Never Comes" eventually builds to fast-paced exhilarating guitar interplay. As we have come to expect from Metallica, the lyrics generate powerful emotion while never being so specific as to make obvious an easy interpretation.

"The Day That Never Comes" charged into the UK top 40 after only 1 full day of availability. It has landed in the top 10 of Billboard's mainstream rock chart with less than a full week of airplay. With production by Rick Rubin, this may be the band's opportunity to return to the pop singles chart with a flourish.
