Jennifer Hudson takes another step tonight in Denver toward being an acting and musical superstar. The Academy Award winning actress will perform the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention in advance of the eagerly anticipated nomination acceptance speech by Barack Obama. Hudson is a native of Chicago, Obama's hometown, and, according to her publicist Thea Borden, he requested specifically that she be selected to sing the "Star Spangled Banner."

Winner of an Academy Award for the role of Effie in the movie version of the musical Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson will at last release her first, self-titled solo album September 30, 2008. She will also star in the movie The Secret Life of Bees due in theaters October 17, 2008. Look for Hudson's opportunity to be a breakout star this fall.
