First Kanye West sang his way through most of his current album 808s and Heartbreak and created what he called music that was pop art. Now, Lil Wayne, the man who sold over 1 million copies of his rap album Tha Carter III in one week last year, is turning to rock. His album Rebirth, scheduled for an April 2009 release is expected to be a rock album not a rap album. The rapper has sported an electric guitar in concert in the past so this may be the next evolution of that aspect of Lil Wayne's approach to music.
The first single from Lil Wayne's new project is "Prom Queen." It's driven by electric guitar, and a special live version is available for viewing now on Lil Wayne's MySpace page. To these ears it all sounds a bit ordinary compared with Lil Wayne's raps. Watch the performance, and let us know what you think. Is Lil Wayne the next rock hero?
