Bill Lamb

Artist in the Wings - Manchester Orchestra

By February 6, 2009

Follow me on:

Manchester Orchestra's second album Mean Everything to Nothing hits stores on April 21, 2009, and all I can say is, if the current single "I've Got Friends" is any indication of the overall work, save your pennies, because this is an album you will want to add to the collection. Frontman Andy Hull told Spinner, "We wanted our album to sound as emotionally dark as (Weezer's) Pinkerton as fuzzy as (Neutral Milk Hotel's) In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, or any Jack White guitar tone, and as musically intense as (Nirvana's) In Utero." Oh, and did I mention they also have a way with a melody?

Since forming in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia in 2005, Manchester Orchestra have been putting in their time to get noticed. They played over 250 shows in 2007 alone. Joe Chicarelli, best known for work with the Shins and My Morning Jacket, has been in the producer's chair for the band's upcoming effort. They have also snagged guest performance spots on Late Show With David Letterman and Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Check out their music below. This is a band to remember.

Great to see you cover these guys. Not sure they will break into the mainstream, their new album seems to be a little too “hard” for it, but I have a feeling they will carve out a pretty huge following for a band in the “alt-rock” scene.

Been following them since their debut came out, and this is my most anticipated release of 09 for sure!
