After Adam Lamber tore through his version of Michael Jackson's "Black Or White" last night, the judges were ready to award him this season's championship with 10 weeks to go. One thing that was abundantly clear is that Adam Lambert "gets" Michael Jackson. A huge component of Michael Jackson as a recording artist is he is one of the gutsiest performers in pop history. Particularly in the Bad and Dangerous era, he turned completely unique songs like "Dirty Diana" into massive pop hits and demonstrated over and over there are no necessary boundaries between rock, pop, and R&B. At his best, Michael Jackson is over the top as a performer and in a world all his own. Adam Lambert's performance was that - over the top, confident, and brilliant. Whether he ultimately wins season eight of American Idol or not, he is the most exciting male contestant we've seen yet on the show.
