I'm not in a habit of pointing readers to just snippets of new songs to hear, but this one is special. Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini burst on to the international scene in 2006 with a maturity of sound well beyond what would be expected of a performer at the age of 19. His debut album These Streets, featuring the hit single "New Shoes," was a #3 smash at home in the UK and broke into the US top 50. With one listen to this 90 second segment of the upcoming single "Candy," it will be obvious Nutini's sound continues to evolve and mature. Many listeners may detect echoes of much loved early 70's pop classics here. The producer is Ethan Johns who has a resume that includes work with Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, and Rufus Wainwright. "Candy" will be released for you to own as a CD or download on May 18, 2009. Paolo Nutini's second album Sunny Side Up will follow in stores June 1, 2009.
