Yes, last night was another night where Adam Lambert stood head and shoulders above most of the competition on this year's American Idol. His version of Tears for Fears' classic "Mad World" was nearly picture perfect complete with that dramatic falsetto raising the intensity at exactly the right moments. However, the growing legions of Adam Lambert fans should not forget their American Idol does find inspiration in other stunning recordings. The 2003 cover version of "Mad World" by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews, recorded for the film Donnie Darko, is a landmark. It reached the top of the UK pop singles chart in December 2003. However, the drama on last night's American Idol performance is all Adam Lambert eliciting a well-deserved standing ovation from Simon Cowell. Check out all 3 versions of "Mad World" below.

It was an amazing performance. Chills galore. What was more amazing was Simon gave a standing ovation to Adam’s performance. Superstar.

What can one say, other than Adam is our next American Idol. I believe Adam is the most talented from all the contestants that have performed the past 8 years. (I am not taking anything away from Carrie Underwood)
