Overall, it was an evening that seemed lacking in inspiration. A primary reason was that on a night where the huge range of great movie music could be explored, contestants came up with tired, overplayed love ballads like Areosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You." Then there was a meaningful performance of "Endless Love" by Danny Gokey, but, still, it was "Endless Love." Adam Lambert turned in another impressive performance, but, even though, yes, "Born To Be Wild" was on the soundtrack to Easy Rider, does the rock classic really make you think movies?
Fortunately, Kris Allen stepped up and made the most inspired song choice of the night. He chose "Falling Slowly," the 2008 Academy Award winner for Best Song from a Motion Picture. It is a gentle but powerful love song, and Allen's interpretation was on target. It is a beautiful song well deserving of greater exposure. This was the type of performance that sends viewers to iTunes to check out the original recording. "Falling Slowly" is the product of a real-life romantic and artistic partnership between Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. It is not the first time Kris Allen has shown his skill at picking the right song. 2 weeks ago his choice of the Bill Withers classic "Ain't No Sunshine" was another stroke of genius. Once again, it's not just about singing, choice of song can make all the difference.

to me kris is the most talented of the bunch. good song choice, versatile yet convincing singing. but i’m not sure he can win. he’s not the one everybody is talking about. best doesn’t mean winner, too many have proven this. so sad ai’s been a popularity show for years and it will still be.
adam’s dramatic performance soon will wear off and his singing style would be hard to fit into the market, if he indeed won the show. danny has a good voice and a overly marketed story, but he also needs a little change and his cocky attitude won’t get him very far.
I could not agree more with cain. People love Adam because he’s different; he’s an entertainer first and foremost. However, I just don’t know what kind of album he would make or if he can really make it in modern music. He’s a great performer and he’s talented, but he’s so theatrical. And Danny Gokey–I am so done with him it’s not even funny.
Kris is my favorite on this show. He seems like a really musical guy and a true talent, not just a vocalist.
Best choice from the best movie.
More people need to see the movie ONCE and hear the incredible songs in it. Kris has done the world a HUGE favor here by drawing more attention to the this phenomenal movie!
I thought that Kris made an incredible song choice yet again. His rendition of “Falling Slowly” was one of the best performances that I have ever heard on idol and I have been watching the show from it’s inception. It was truly brilliant. I hope he wins but they need to share the spotlight with him. Everyone else to me is forgettable.
Totally agree with all the comments. Kris is one of the best contestants to hit AI. He is multi-talented and refreshing. AI would be foolish to pass him up.
yeah.. i’m glad Kris Allen won..
I agree with u guys about Adam..
I’m also not sure of what kind of album he can make.. although he can really hit high notes, its seems like a shout to me.. Would people endure to hear those very high notes which is not really necessary.. and Kris is very humble, that’s why he won.. unlike Adam, he is like a gay.. i so hate it when he smiles, he’s a like a girl trying to look beautiful in front of the camera. and i so like kris cause he’s just a simple and good-looking man.. he doesnt need to do anything to look good. he’s just simply him and it makes people fall for him
