21 year old singer Jessie James rides along that line between pop and country that can appeal equally to fans of both genres. Her first single "Wanted" was co-written by Kara DioGuardi and has made inroads at pop radio. A self-titled debut album is due in stores in July. I caught up with Jessie James and asked her a few questions about music and her career.
Q: For a pop fan who has never heard your music, how would you describe it?
A: Twangy, pop, soul, edgy real music! Shania meets Christina, meets Sheryl Crow!
Q: How did you and Kara DioGuardi get together and write “Wanted?
A: My label set me up with her. They sent her my demo and she loved it, and we wrote togerher.
Q: Who are the biggest influences on your music?
A: Shania, Bobbie Gentry, Christina Auguilera.
Q: Where would you like to be a year from now?
A: On my own tour, platinum plus album, and own my own publishing company.
Q: the field of female vocalists is a bit crowded right now. What makes you stand out from the others?
A: I can actually sing. I’m not just some pretty face, shaking my ass. I write my own songs, I sing! And I’ve been in this business since I was 15.
