For the past 36 years, Radio and Records has been looked at as one of the primary authorities on what music is most popular on the radio. Today, the Nielsen Company, the owner of the industry publication, announced that that magazine's "macro did not work" in today's economy and Radio and Records would cease publication immediately. All jobs were immediately eliminated. However, the airplay charts that have been a mainstay of Radio and Records will be folded into Billboard magazine, another Nielsen Company entity. Reportedly a number of employees had already been moved over to work for Billboard. Although the closure was only announced today, the Radio and Records web site has already ceased operation.
