It took the organizer of the event himself to help bring a fitting close to one of the biggest of US music festivals. Vocalist Perry Farrell, and chief organizer of Lollapalooza, along with guitarist Dave Navarro (pictured at right) led the original lineup of Jane's Addiction performing for the first time at Lollapalooza since its founding back in 1991. Their performance paid tribute to the group's sheer power at its peak while competing for an audience with the Killers performing at the opposite end of the park venue.

Earlier in the day celebrated indie pop band Vampire Weekend paid tribute to the late movie director John Hughes. Lead vocalist Ezra Koenig (pictured at left) dedicated the song "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" to the director of such classics as The Breakfast Club and 16 Candles.
An early in the day highlight of day 3 at Lollapalooza was the appearance of Natasha Khan, aka Bat for Lashes (pictured at right). She is nominated this year for a Mercury Prize for her album Two Suns. Her music is frequently mesmerising and the performance left no questions why Two Suns will likely be on many critics' short lists of top albums when we find ourselves at the end of 2009.
Other top performers of the day included Snoop Dogg and rock legend Lou Reed.
