Janet Jackson's most recent album Discipline was her first since 1984's Dream Street to not include participation from producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. It was also the first album in which Jackson did not co-write any of the songs since Dream Street. It could be coincidence but the result was Discipline remains Janet Jackson's poorest selling album since she became a pop superstar with 1986's Control.

Recent word on work on Janet Jackson's upcoming album are that she has been writing songs once again with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Are all the pieces falling into place for a new pop classic by Janet Jackson? We should all find out early in 2010. Meanwhile, check out some of the top past achievements from Janet Jackson with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

As an artist, Janet Jackson is all washed-up IMO. Her main undoing: sex. If Jackson writes a dance song, it’s going to be about sex. If she writes an R&B song, it’s going to be about sex. If she writes a ballad, it’s going to be about sex. Well, you get the idea. :P I suspect she has very low self-esteem, because she seems to think that’s all she has to offer.

Her best album IMO was “Control.” I haven’t heard anything by her to suggest she’s ever come close to that album. “Rhythm Nation” wasn’t bad, but it was bombastic and pretentious, with very little magic. As of now, she’s had 3 flop albums in a row–has anybody ever recovered from that? She just doesn’t have any songs with catchy melodies anymore. No big loss, though–pop success only lasts so long. She should be thankful she had such a lenghty pop career when she’s really not that vocally talented.

3 flops in a row!!! Two of her last three went platinum! I wouldn’t say flop. Her counterpart, Madonna, has done even worse but noone seems to mention that! Maybe because if anyone is nice to Madonna she will do what she does best, sleep with them!

You write that noone has ever comeback from a slump like that. Well someone has to always be the first and it just may be the talented Ms. Jackson! After all, Tiger Woods was the first black to win the Masters and President Obama is the first black president!

Sam, I disagree. I agree with Antonio, that her last few albums that you called flops went platinum. It would go that way because of something called fans. And since you feel that way about her last album, Do you have any suggestions on what she can do to have a better selling album…….NOT! Low self esteem isn’t someone who sings about sex all the time. Low self esteem is someone who sits on a computer trying to analyze someone else’ career. NOW THATS SAD! HAHAHAHAHA

Her last few albums did ok, not wow grate but not bad at all.She unfortunately falls in a spot, where every thing shes dose will get down played by media and the masses will believe it with out looking at facts. She still in the game !

This Sam person must also have low self-esteem. Ms. Jackson’s least selling albums have done much better than most artist today that is getting massive airplay. She’s an ICON, which means she has paid her dues and doesn’t have to sell 10 million albums every time she comes out with a new one. Janets albums always contains hits and other nice gems. So Sam, take a closer lessoning to them again. I’m sure you have them all too.

Die Hard Janet fans know the truth… when J is in top form she’s a force to be reckoned with! Maybe her last few projects didn’t have the spark we’ve come to expect from our girl, but that’s okay. I have a feeling her new venture with Jam & Lewis will put her back on top. Can’t wait!

Yeah I thought thoughs were her dog names too. I’m to stoke about this up coming project. Just to here her writing her own songs a again is a plus. Jimmy And Terry is a extra bouns, come on Janet we need a Velvet Rope Part Du.

I hate to point out to a reporter that he is wrong, but he is…Rocky and Bullwinkle are her dogs, not Jam and Lewis.
What pleases me as a fan about this project is Janet has gone back to writing her songs again. She is taking back Control of her career from midget man, and she will dominate again.

(13) Allan says:

I think Janet’s still got it. She just need to take her time and work with Jimmy & Lewis. She used to sell a lot before the Superbowl accident, but her 3 albums after that are considered “flops” because they only sold over the 1 million unit. I think she can truly make a comeback. The fans need to forget about the Superbowl whatever and remember who Janet had always been: a talented and unique artist!

Rocky & Bullwinkle are her dogs, not pet names for Jam&Lewis.

Journalism 101. Ok if you are going to write an article and want to have credibility then please, Please, PLEASE do some simple research. This is one of the things I hate about the internet today. Everyone thinks they can write and are credible sources. For starters, it is not “well known” that Janet calls Jimmy and Terry as Rocky and Bullwinkle for pet names. Where in the world did you get that from? Janet has never referred to them as that. She has always referred to them as Jimmy and Terry. Rocky and Bullwinkle are her pet dogs.

So moral of the story….research before you write. No need to make stuff up.
