Michael Jackson must now be considered the artist most likely to end up with the top selling album of 2009. There is still plenty of time for other albums to pass his greatest hits collection Number Ones, but there is also little reason to believe his album will not continue selling steadily through the end of the year, possibly even boosted by the holiday season. As of this week Billboard magazine reports that Number Ones has now sold 1.62 million copies which passes Taylor Swift's Fearless that now stands at a total of 1.61 million copies. Interestingly, Michael Jackson's collection had only sold in the range of 1.7 million copies prior this year. It is now a triple platinum release.
