Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" Is Bumped Out Early - Will It Cross Over to Pop

Carrie Underwood's latest single "Cowboy Casanova" wasn't supposed to be out quite this early, but an Internet leak of an inferior version convinced her label to put the song up for everyone to hear on YouTube in finished form. One of the biggest questions the song raises is whether Taylor Swift's phenomenal success in the last year crossing over from country to pop will enable Carrie Underwood to appeal directly to pop fans as well. This new song has the energy of Underwood's biggest pop crossover "Before He Cheats." The stories that Carrie Underwood has been working in the studio with Ne-Yo add fuel to the expectation that she is looking to appeal to mainstream pop audiences. The new album Play On is due in stores November 3, 2009. Meanwhile, listen below to "Cowboy Casanova."

Carrie blogged that this will be the only version released to radio. She strongly reiterated that she doesn’t release more than one version of her songs. The more “pop friendly” version was a rough cut/demo and never meant to be heard by anyone. She won’t be changing the original.
