Jay-Z Passes Elvis Presley - Now Second On All-Time List Of Most #1 Albums

By September 16, 2009

Follow me on:

When Billboard's new album chart comes out tomorrow, Jay-Z will be sitting at the top with very strong first week sales of 476,000 for his new collection The Blueprint 3. This puts him at a total of a phenomenal 11 #1 albums. He moves one ahead of Elvis Presley to occupy second place on the all-time list behind the Beatles who own 19 #1's. Fittingly, the achievement takes place the same week the Beatles storm the charts with a full reissue of their British album catalog.

Jay-Z's first album to top the charts was his third release Volume 2...Hard Knock Life in 1998. All of his solo releases since have topped the charts meaning nine of his solo albums have hit the top. In addition, two collaborative albums, Unfinished Business with R. Kelly and Collision Course with Linkin Park have been #1 hits. Jay-Z has been no slouch on the pop singles chart either. Seven singles with Jay-Z listed as primary performer have hit the pop top 10 including his current hit "Run This Town" with featured appearances by Rihanna and Kanye West. He has appeared as a featured performer on eight more top 10 hits including the #1 smashes "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey, "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce, and "Umbrella" by Rihanna.
