Avril Lavigne and Husband Deryck Whibley Separating

One of the most talented couples in pop-rock circles seem to be headed their separate ways. Avril Lavigne confirmed on her MySpace blog yesterday that she and husband Deryck Whibley are separating and "moving forward on a positive note." The statement also says they had been together for 6 1/2 years. They met when the 24 year old Lavigne was 17, started dating when she was 19 and married when she was 21. The pair were married in the summer of 2006.

Avril Lavigne has three top 2 charting albums that have each sold five million or more copies worldwide. In addition she has five top 10 pop singles in the US. Deryck Whibley is lead vocalist and guitarist for the band Sum 41. Their last two albums have reached the top 10 in the US. The band has four top 10 modern rock hits in the US. Deryck Whibley was also one of the producers that worked on Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing album. Reports have indicated he was working with her on the follow up album.
