Even if you are not typically a fan of Latin music, this is a performance to see. This year's ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards were televised last Friday and featured a stunning performance from former American Idol runner-up David Archuleta. He won the award for Male Music Rising Star. When David Archuleta started to sing it quickly became obvious why he was deserving of such an accolade. He performed the song "Contigo en la Distancia." The song is most closely associated with Mexican Latin pop star Luis Miguel. Now 18, David Archuleta sings with impressive maturity in voice and demeanor. This is one of the best performances of his career to this point. Look for a Spanish language track on David Archuleta's upcoming Christmas collection Christmas From the Heart.

As a bilingual fan of David’s I was completely in awe of this performance. I have seen him perform live on several occasions and I envy the people who got to experience this live. What a performance! It’s amazing that he is only 18 with such power and emotions under control. This rendition is perfecto. I love his debut song, Crush (my guilty pleasure) and knew this young man has a special voice that is hard to find these days.

I have been around for 62 years now, and must say, without a doubt, that David Archuleta, his music and his persona, have topped anyone I have witnessed in the music industry …ever… in all my years!!! What you witnessed in this performance is only the beginning of what this wonderful young man has to share with us!! He has been wooing crowds, and gaining fans wherever he goes. He has been busy non stop touring the USA , Asia, and England since he finished the American Idol Tour! He honored his latin heritage by singing the most beautiful rendition of “Contigo en la Distancia” that I have ever heard!! David was in his element, and all I can say is…there is not stopping him now! I have been stunned that he can keep improving on perfection!!! He is one class act!

His performace was stunning! After watching Shakira make a fool of herself and Pitbull & Sean have half dressed women dancing around, it was refreshing to see a young man with such class, grace and beauty sing such a touching song!! I’m always in awe of David when he sings. I fell in love with him when he was on AI and sang “Imagine”. David is one of the most talented young singers today!!!!
As impressive as David’s vocal and emotional delivery of this song was, what floors me is that David took a huge risk by doing an acoustic performance on a show that would be seen my millions of people. An acoustic performance shows everything — each flat or sharp note, a missed lyric, an out-of-tune run. There is no place to hide. And this was his first Awards show performance and he mentioned on Twitter how nervous he was. And to pull it off so exquisitely. WOW! This young man not only has the talent but also the cujones.

Thank you for your positive review of David’s amazingly performance. It wasn’t that long ago that David was called “boring” by many because of the ballads he performed on AI. I wonder if those same critics would call this performance boring too. There’s no denying that David is the voice of his generation. I am thrilled by the poise he displays in this performance nearly as much as I am by that beautiful voice. His self-confidence has grown so much, even in the short span of time since I saw him perform in Seattle this past July. I can hardly wait for “Christmas From The Heart” to be released next month. David’s voice was meant to be shared with the world and what better way than to share it than through the music of Christmas.

Thank you Mr. Lamb for your insightful and truthful review of David’s ALMA performace of “Contigo en la Distancia”. Stunning wasn’t the word for David that night. I have said over and over, David Archuleta is the consummate performer; he learns and applies. When he sang the first note, each of his fans’ heart beat slowed to a crawl just hoping to not breathe and interrupt that moment of perfection. I admitted this before, when David finished that song I had an actual back spasm. Even now, I can barely write this for tears. David gave to his community something he hadn’t given to any others. He never ceases to amaze us. Always taking it to another level.
You know Dean Kaelin, David’s vocal coach once said of David that he doesn’t know his ability. And it’s so true. David is always going a bit higher. This performance was simply exquiste. Oh my gosh! I am so glad the public appreciated his talent.
*I won’t go into anything negative about afterwards. I’ll just say, David has worked too hard to be slighted. David, we’ll always have your back.

David astounds AGAIN! He leaves me speechless whenever I hear any performance of his! This time was no different, however, I did notice a more calm, confident, assured David. In less than a week David Archuleta pulled off 2 magnificent performances. When he sang America the Beautiful on September 13th (at the US Open) with just a piano accompaning him, I couldn’t believe it. Then on Friday (at the Alma’s), with just a guitar player, he sang the most stunning Spanish song. David Archuleta is an amazing talent, good looking and one of the most down to earth people you would ever want to meet! All I can say is he takes my breath away when he performs!!!!
I’ll just say “Ditto” to everyone’s comments. David is just a pleasure to listen to. Even though I know not one word of Spanish (well, “Si” haha) you can still feel the emotion of the song. Needless to say, his vocal perfection at the Alma Awards took our breath away. We are not Latino, but have seen David in several concerts and he was amazing live. We already ordered his Xmas CD and plan to give this as a Xmas gift to everyone in our family and friends. This is not just a talented young man, but also an incredible human being. He was born with this incredible gift, his voice he shares with us. We made an effort on Friday to watch the Alma awards with our family members, so that we can listen to this amazing young talent. I was told from someone who attended the show that Salma Hayek was one of the first to give him a standing ovation, and then others followed, but it was edited out when the show aired. I don’t know if that is true or not though. Rita Moreno was also clapping and it looked like she was saying…amazing! I would like to know what she really thought. I didn’t expect to like listening to a song that I could not understand, but boy was I wrong! I think not speaking Spanish made me focus more on his voice, instead of just the words. I’ve been one of David’s “Angels” since I saw him perform “Heaven” on Season 7 Idol auditions. I knew at that moment he would become a super star. I love all of his music and have my favorites from his debut album. However, The ALMA performance was beyond my wildest expectations! I was brought to tears but, at the same time, I was smiling inside because I was so proud of this beautiful young man and how hard he has worked to get to this point in his career. The emotions that he was feeling and caused us to feel were breathtaking, stunning! I, like everyone else, had to watch and listen over & over again that night…couldn’t believe my ears or eyes! The definition of class, is David Archuleta. His performance was one that television audiences don’t get treated to any longer…until now. David understands music and the emotion it can convey, with his beautiful voice. A phenomenal performance that filled that auditorium witnessed by a mesmorized audience in complete silence. Imagine that. No special effects, no dancers, fireworks. Just the man, a guitar, and a dimly lit stage, and he was the star of the evening. Topping off his performance of America The Beautiful at the U.S. Open. What a week it was for music. Thank you David, no one works harder for their audience.

I too was impressed with his singing even though I don’t know the words (I do not know Spanish) I felt the passion. However, not only does he sing like an angel he is one of the best examples of good in a world filled with mixed signals for all people his age. He always speaks kind wordsm, never curses, dresses modestly and is just a all round good clean teen. I adore him and love to listen to him sing and talk and some day I hope to see him dance. A darkened stage, solo guitar music and David’s pure, silken velvet voice – that’s heaven in any language. Suffice it to say that David’s heartfelt performance will be to blame for the enrollment spike in Spanish 101 come Monday morning!

When I heard David was to sing at the ALMA Awards I did not want him to sing in spanish. I wanted the world to hear “his” music. But after hearing his performance I know he made the right choice. It was stunning, it made me proud to be a Mexican/hispanic. He made tears roll down my cheeks. I listen to it every chance I get. David you are amazing in Spanish or English!

The true judges are the ones behind the curtain. It’s 19 Entertainment/Freemantle who chooses to win regardless of the votes. They get the last say. Why did they not select David? Freemantle – 19 Entertainment/Fox did not want a Latino to take the title of “American” Idol. Apparently they don’t think that being partly Latino is “All” American.

what it is. There is no other reason on this earth.
There can be a trillion votes for whom ever. These people behind the curtains have the last say and will manipulate the voting system as they have done with Lambert and make it appear fair. They truly disregard the efforts of the fans. In my opinion, Ryan Seacrest is part of it. I remember voting for David and he answered my phone and insisted that I dialed wrong. David Archuleta is one of only a rare few REAL vocalists singing today. In a world where our popular “singers” have become increasingly manufactured via the overuse of electronic gadgetry and study gimmickry, this young man chooses instead to eschew such tricks and simply WOW us with his incredible voice while wearing his heart on his sleeve. I do not speak a word of Spanish, however, I was so moved by the heartfelt performance David Archuleta gave during the Alma Awards. I was surprised the audience were not on their feet. I know I would have been had I been in attendance. The award he was given was much deserved.

Some people who attended the event said that the audience gave him a standing ovation. Salma Hayek on the first row got up first and then rest of them followed. TV didn’t show the scene, but everyone in the show was blown away by his performance. He proved that he is a top notch real gem.
