Courage seemed to be the word of the day for the two most impressive auditions on the final audition show for the sixth season of X Factor. 21 year old Scott James had spent the previous seven years of his life hiding from others after being diagnosed with autism. He only left home to attend school. Through a discovered love of music and the assistance of a vocal coach, he discovered his route out of hiding. By the time Scott James had finished singing "You Raise Me Up" this week, my expectation is that millions of viewers felt lifted just a bit higher by his inspiring story and courageous performance. Ignoring his story for a moment, however, it is still easy to recognize tremendous vocal talent and Scott James received four well deserved "yes" votes from the judges.
Another awe inspiring courageous performance came from 31 year old Daniel Pearce. Attentive fans of British pop music may definitely recognize his name and face. Pearce was one of the winners of the talent show Popstars: The Rivals, and he became a member of the boy band One True Voice. The same show and season also produced Girls Aloud featuring X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. Unfortunately, One True Voice went their separate ways less than a year after formation. This year Daniel Pearce has turned to the X Factor to attempt to revitalize his singing career. He isn't the first member of One True Voice to do so. Two others, Matt Johnson and Anton Gordon, have done so. Daniel Pearce's performance of Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" was stunning, and his humble return was filled with inspiration and courage.
