Sony Extending Michael Jackson's This Is It Through Thanksgiving - A Gift to Fans or Industry Cynicism?
Well, if you were dragging your feet on getting yourself to a movie theater to see Michael Jackson's This Is It, the concert documentary, in its two weeks of limited release, you can breathe a bit easier. Sony Pictures has announced they are planning to extend the film's tenure in movie theaters through Thanksgiving weekend here in the US. On one hand it looks as if execs were disappointed with what some see as a lackluster response to their efforts to drive up ticket sales with a limited release, and chose to wring out more cash from tickets with a longer stay on the big screen. However, Jeff Blake of Sony tells Entertainment Weekly no. He explains that, basically, it started to look like the general public were seeing the film as another movie and a proper movie deserves a longer release. What do you think? And have you seen the film?
