Lucie Jones Leaves in X Factor Shock - Why Simon Got It Right

Monday November 9, 2009

First, it should be made clear that neither of the contestants in X Factor's bottom two should have been the act to go home. It has been abundantly clear for nearly a month now that Lloyd Daniels is adorable but really doesn't belong in the company of the other remaining contestants. However, it is the fickle public that decides who is vulnerable to elimination, and Lloyd has his fan base.

So we are left with two performers, Lucie Jones and the twins John and Edward. During the performances the night before, Lucie delivered arguably her best, most relaxed, performance yet and looked like she could even win the competition. The twins also delivered their best performance yet sounding more in tune and genuinely entertaining with "Ghostbusters."

Then they delivered their performances to try and save themselves. Lucie Jones hauled out the tired Whitney Houston hit "One Moment In Time." It was sung well if a bit uninspired. The twins John and Edward revisited their earlier "Rock DJ" performance, but this time stripped of the over the top staging, they sang well and when the attention was focused solely on them, they were still very engaging entertainers. Sitting at home I was left with no clear decision between the two. As Simon Cowell said that if he was deciding based on who he would be most curious to see again it would be the twins, I had to nod in unison. John and Edward have been nothing if not consistently entertaining and interesting. They are quite possibly the most interesting contestants yet on X Factor. So, for me at least, leaving the decision to the general public was the most responsible decision for Simon Cowell to make. If there is frustration with seeing Lucie Jones go, it rightfully belongs at the feet of the home viewers.

When will people start leaving Lloyd alone, its clear he is a good singer or he wouldnt have got 4 yes’ in his audition. Cheryl is the one to blame she isnt giving him the right songs. you go back and Listen to Lloyds auditions when he sand Turn Back the hands of time & You are not alone he is amazing because he knows what suits him. Simon is a idiot for going to deadlock as Lucie was clearly better but at the end of the day its the public that voted for Jedward so theyre just as much to blame. Lloyd to win x

(4) Maida says:

Yes Simon got it right! He had the chance to eliminate one of the best singers from the contest, thereby leaving more room for his 3 boys. He was positively salivating – he was offered the chance to make a sly play & he took it. So yeh he got right alright!

(5) Jhon says:

Yet… Its a singing competition.. Jhon and edward are very good at what they do, thats why they should be in a show like britains got talent… Instead, Cowell took the oportunity to eliminate one of the best singers that couold actually win the show, and from what i’ve seen lucie could be the only one of the whole commpetition who could break not only un UK but America as well, so back the start im not sayin they are bad, in fact they are good but for another show

I’m sorry but you have completely missed the point here – it is not about what is the most fair thing to do. What makes X Factor different from the Idol franchise is the sing-offs and judges save feature. This feature makes X Factor unique and is originally meant to save the best act during the sing-off, and to make the judges more relevant. If Simon wants a deadlock he should completely change the X Factor format AT THE START OF THE SERIES, ie back to the Idol format. I feel cheated as a viewer as now I am confused as to what makes this show differen from Idol?

(7) Jedward! :) says:

lucie’s definitely good, but to tell you the truth, her survival song hardly brought a smile from anyone least of all the judges..apart from danni of course…

when jedward hit the stage cheryl had a huge smile on her face as did the ever so smug Mr Cowell. honestly if john and edward went off i would have stopped watching. x factor is usually a bore.

ps i blame stupid louis for the backlash, why is he being mean to each and everyone its damaging jedward!!

and the other like danni its quite hard to connect with her audiences, her aloof nature is starting to reflect on her girls.

Alot of people seem to have this misconception that eve though you are awful dancers, awful singers and very dim, somehow that makes you entertaining? There is nothing entertaining about the twins, the talentless duo shouldn’t have even made the finals let alone stay whilst two good singers leave.

(9) Karen says:

Who would I rather see again between Lucie and Jedward? I would rather see Jedward and I’m not even a fan of theirs.

Why blame the judges – song choice, taking to deadlock etc. Blame the public for voting or not voting for the acts. It’s the way the cookie crumbles.

(10) Sharon says:

I disagree. Simon was contradictory with his comments. Previously he has been slamming J&E for their lack on singing abilities and looking forward to their exit. When in the position to decide, he suddenly changes his views and he would rather watch J&E next week (instead of Lucie). Which is an applauling comment as Simon said Lucie gave a great performance on Sat. I think Simon knew the results were beforehand and made the decision to keep J&E for goodcviewer ratings. I dont agree as Xfactor is a singing competition, not a talent competition. I have totally lost faith in this program!

X Factor Stars Lucie Jones and Laura White wowed audiences in Stockport on Wednesday night at the Merseyway Shopping Centre Christmas Light celebrations. It was Lucie’s first live performance since her controversial exit from The X Factor this week. (13) strogers says:

This competition isn’t about who put on the most entertaining act. It’s a singing competition.
Simon contradicted himself. He said that he would judge it on who put on the best performance, but he didn’t. He voted against Lucie, saying he’d rather see John and Edward again. Lucie clearly put on the best performance, in my opinion and she didn’t deserve to go. That event made a mockery out of the show.

Bill Lamb’s got the hots for Simon :)
There’s no other explanation.

Complete drivel from this reporter. The twins may be amusing, but this is a SINGING competition.
