Rumors have been floating for some time now. Today's announcements make it official. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Fox has announced they have signed the hit British show X Factor to begin in the fall of 2011. In addition, Simon Cowell will quit American Idol after this season to focus on the launch of X Factor.
The American X Factor is expected to be similar to its British counterpart, and Simon Cowell will be head judge. He says the other judges will be announced soon. Some differences from American Idol include that there is no upper age limit and groups are allowed. Although many predict this is the death knell for American Idol, Fox is reported to be planning to sign a three year extension for the show.
