Shiny Toy Guns' "Major Tom" Rides Grammy Commercial Exposure Into Major Sales Boost

One of the biggest winners of Grammy night did not even take the Grammy stage. Ford chose to feature the band Shiny Toy Guns and their performance of the Peter Schilling classic "Major Tom" once again in commercials to advertise the new line of Lincoln cars for 2010. Last year "Major Tom" was voted most popular ad song of the year by Adtunes based on nearly 500,000 YouTube views of the ad for the Lincoln MKZ which featured the song.

Shiny Toy Guns have five top 40 alternative hits to their credit since 2006. However, they are yet to climb into the pop top 40. This line of commercials may change all that. This morning, after Shiny Toy Guns were featured in commercials during the Grammy broadcast, "Major Tom" landed in the iTunes top 40. The original version of "Major Tom" was a top 20 pop hit back in 1983. Adventurous pop radio programmers should take note.

Love the Shiny Toy Guns. Seeing them on the Lincoln commercial was the coolest.
