So far David Archuleta's "Something 'Bout Love," the first single from his upcoming The Other Side of Down album, is an overlooked pop gem. It just debuted this past week at #4 on the Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. The music video to accompany the song was released today, and the spirit of the clip matches the song perfectly. David Archuleta appears and sings as love is working its magic through the crowd around him. The success of "Something 'Bout Love" and The Other Side of Down will likely play a role in determining whether or not David Archuleta has staying power as a mainstream pop artist. I hope he has staying power…cause I just CAN’T live without his voice! His label needs to promote him more…
He is amazing!!!! The music industry has problems if they can’t see that. There is so much crap out there today. Bieber can’t hold a candle to David. He is the real deal. I have a feeling he is here to stay.
If this song doesn’t make it on the RADIO and become a BIG HIT then I don’t understand POP culture or today’s generation!
I really love the song, and the video, and David. I hope he does find his niche in the pop world. Not sure yet how listeners who aren’t already fans are responding.
Umm…this song is awesome, and it won’t be overlooked for long. And does David has staying power? Ohhhh yeah…
I love this video…David looks and sounds amazing…and I love his new single! What a gr8 song!
This is a “pop gem” for sure and I guess it’s just a matter of time before everyone will be bopping around to it! David does everything with class and thoughtfulness – though the song has a fun, dancey feel, he has put a lot into some meaningful lyrics. And I love how he makes sure the video shows his story the way he intended it. If David doesn’t have “staying power” then the world is worse off than I thought! David has got it all and we are fortunate to have him for a long time!
I adore this young man! I’ve followed him since his “Heaven” audition and continue to be amazed by his hard work & the person he is. This new song & video reflect David perfectly. Don’t wish to compare him to any other singer..to say he is “simply the best” pretty much sums it up for me. He is a caring person, always tuned into others’ feelings. I feel blessed to be his fan forever.
I understand your prediction of make-it or break-it. But it has to do with how his management and label will promote him. No doubt, he is one of the best vocalists out there who doesn’t want to sell his soul to the name of popularity by selling sex or dirty antics. I am sick of flash in the pan singers who sing crappy songs. David is a pure gem who wants to use music as a means of delivering the positive influence on people. I think sooner or later, the current crappy songs on top 40 will change and go back to pure music with meaningful lyrics that touch your emotions rather than the one that gives superficial pleasure. David’s inborn talent, hard work, and desire to be a better song writer and performer will help him go long.
The video for “Something ‘Bout Love” is the first real promotion for the song outside of David’s fan base. Aside from those who regularly visit his fan sites, few have even known of the song’s existence. The video should help change that.
As you say this next album may very well ensure continued success for David, but in this case I am willing to bet that if the American audience (as in the United States) does not support David and his music, there are other markets who will. David has an edge, actually many edges, he has been very well received by Spanish speaking audiences and I believe, Canada, and overseas markets have recognized David’s exceptional vocal talents. In my estimation, David’s talent will not be denied.
The U.S. audience has and will continue to support David, but his label and his management have to get the word out and promote him. David is a top tier talent, but even the best of the best need proper promotion. For example, even after all these years at the top Coca Cola must still advertise in order to maintain its market share.
I’m really loving the video. The video managed to represent David in a more mature light. Gosh is he handsome and mature! He has grown into a young man who is very appealing beyond words! As for his singing, we all know he nails it each time! It was simply done with taste to represent his age and not some video with pyro techicis and stunts – just his talented voice (oh and looks)!
I am agreeing with Sarah. I do not like the way the music industry is going. It seems you have to do something raunchy or lewd to get any attention. What happened to good clean talent. David is a very principled young man, and as Sarah said will not sell his soul for fame and fortune. He just wants to sing and hopefully make other people feel good with his songs. It is certainly working for me. Hopefully, he will get good promotion like some of the less talented people are getting.
David’s new single and video are PERFECT! Love David and everything about him. What do you mean this will prove whether David has staying power? He not only has young fans, but older fans as well. That is staying power proof right there. He does not need gimmicks and obsene videos to earn staying power. Finally a video that my whole family can watch and feel good about Something about LOVE (younger and older). Great job David Archuleta. A real talent here for sure
David singing is beautiful, the problem with the music industry and a good percentage of listeners is that they want to hear cursing or watch people in compromised positions on a video, and that won’t happened with this young Gem.He has showed moral and principles, hard to find
out there now days.
Congratulations David and if the label drop you off, we, your
loyal fans will Pick You Up and Support you for EVER.
CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP! David will become as successful as he wants to be. I do agree, it is not about fame and fortune for David. It is about connecting with people and making a difference in people’s lives with his unbelievable voice and caring heart! I am betting if he “holds the course, he can turn the tide!” David is exactly what our Music Industry needs…. he is a gem alright…he is a “diamond in the rough!”
Oh, Sharon, I so hope you are right in what you say.
But for some reason, its mostly we that are on his fan sites regularly that know that he is “the cream”. And Sarah, Mary, and Latliana, I also think you are right and that he needs to be promoted more. He badly needs some TV appearances on shows like, Ellen, Oprah, The View, Jimmy Kimmel, The Tonight show, Letterman, and some prime-time. Beiber and Lambert are getting the attention that David should be having.
Rose…I agree he does need more promotion!!! He DESERVES more promotion by his label. However…does David want to achieve the same status as JB??? What David’s fans want for him, and what he wants for himself may be two different things. We just don’t know. Look how busy he is now, without any TV promotion! I am sure he wants a life filled with friends and family too. Fame does not necessarily translate into happiness. I just want him to be happy…in whatever way he defines that for himself.
David just need a better promotion , better management, better videos and better material to sing, he has the talent but need to find the other pieces of this puzzle, the song is GREAT though .
Sharon, I do think he wants fame. He doesn’t want to spend his life just singing the National Anthem in public. Something ’bout Love is a good song and I hope the rest of his album does better than the first (I mean aside from Crush). Frankly I liked “You Can” and “To Be With You” the best from that album but they never seemed to make it. Yet I feel he should sing more ballads. Everybody (including the young people) loved him on American Idol where he mainly sang ballads because he is able to put so much feeling into ballads. I long to hear him do more “When You Say You Love Me”, Smokey Mountain Memories, Long and Winding Road, Etc.
David 4evah!
Thanks Bill, for recognizing that “Something ‘Bout Love” is a gem! Hopefully, the SBL video release will make sure that this uplifting song will not be overlooked and will make even casual fans eagerly anticipate David’s album. Not only is SBL a gem; so IS David! His voice and character reveal a special talent and much needed values/decency in today’s music industry. David will never compromise himself to try to achieve super stardom. David steadfastly remains true to himself, focusing on the positive things in life that make him happy. His love for music and his desire to share it with others is all we need to continue to support him in any way we can, forever!
This is such an upbeat song. I love it! Am such a David Archuleta fan, I can’t wait for his album to come out. I agree that if this song doesn’t make it, something is seriously wrong with the industry.
I really love the video and it seems “so David” to me. I love how he looks into the camera when he is singing like he is singing to ALL of us. The song is ageless and just a feel good song. “Something Bout Love” is a gr8 song and I really hope it gets more promo and DJs give it a chance because David is super-talented. That was pretty cool that David’s brother was in the video too. And it doesn’t hurt that David is pretty dang gorgeous too
A GEM it certainly is — so much better lyrically, musically, and vocally that much of the stuff on the Top 100. If David’s label and management promote the song/video as they should, it can’t help but be a hit if radio stations, VH1, etc. give it a good chance at succeeding.
I love SBL and this video is a perfect match to it’s feel good message. Like others have said, David needs to be back on TV and needs promo outside his fanbase. HE is a gem who refuses to give up his principles to sell music and I admire that!!! I hope Jive has a plan for this song -right now it’s hard to tell! It deserves to be on the radio and is SO much more fun/addictive than the monotonous every-song-sounds-the-same cr*p on now.
I love this song and I love David Archuleta. If he dosen’t have stay power in the pop music world, then I would say there is something definately wrong. Something Bout Love is so well done and his voice is just so gorgeous not to mention him too! I think his label and management need to do a better job promoting him. Its so frustrating to me. This song is a gem and if they put the time and money into it and Daivd why aren’t they doing the right thing by him? I hope they get with it since there’s still time.
Cool that it was on the #4 Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. It hasn’t been out long (the video) to be overlooked….give it time. We archie fans have spreading the word power! Awesome job David!
David Archuleta is one super singer who, sooner or later, is going to get his just due. He’s becoming more popular, in my estimation, but is rising slowly, steadily, instead of shooting across the firmament like some stars do. Something About Love should be another hit for this underrated talent, and his sophomore album, The Other Side of Down, should make it clear to everyone that David Archuleta is here to stay.
