It looks like last night's MTV Video Music Awards could provide the commercial breakthrough needed in the US by critics favorite Florence and the Machine, aka Florence Welch and assorted backing musicians. She took the stage to deliver a stunning live performance of "Dog Days Are Over" which was nominated for Video of the Year. This morning the song is perched at #11 on the US iTunes digital tracks chart. Thus far Florence and the Machine have failed to reach the Billboard Hot 100. The debut album Lungs has reached #1 in the UK, produced three top 40 pop singles, and has been certified four times platinum. It has only made it to #61 in the US.
