As was widely expected, American Idol has announced that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will join Randy Jackson at the judges' table for season 10. Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope Records, will also be on hand as an in-house mentor. He will be getting assistance from star producers Timbaland and Polow da Don as well. The announcements were made this morning in Los Angeles. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said there would be rule changes, but he did not give specifics. He did say the show was getting rid of the idea of artist mentors. Jennifer Lopez has a recording career that has produced eight top 10 pop singles including four #1s, and her album sales are estimated in the range of 25 million worldwide. As lead vocalist of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler has sung on nine top 10 pop singles including one that hit #1. Aerosmith's worldwide album sales are estimated at over 150 million.
