Taylor Swift has now laid down the challenge to all that would question her talent on "Speak Now," the title cut from her upcoming album. The first single "Mine" does feel like a misstep and a little dull for a first release, but this is something else entirely. The lyrics kick off as follows:
I am not the kind of girl
Who should be rudely barging in on a white veil occasion
But you are not the kind of boy
Who should be marrying the wrong girl
I sneak in and see your friends, and her snotty little family
All dressed in pastel
And she is yelling at a bridesmaid, somewhere back inside a room
Wearing a gown shaped like a pastry
The song is sweet, funny, bratty, and edgy all at the same time. Taylor Swift remains one of our most gifted young lyricists. The song is storming the iTunes digital sales charts sitting at #2 already in its first day of sales. The album Speak Now hits stores October 25, 2010.
