Coming into the finale it definitely looked like Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson were in the driver's seat, but I would never underestimate Simon Cowell's sense of strategy. To my eyes and ears, his boy band One Direction have made the greatest strides forward both last week in the semi-finals and this week in the finale. It was a stroke of genius to have them perform Elton John's classic "Your Song," currently a top 5 hit for Ellie Goulding. Then, the sense of camaraderie with boy band veteran Robbie Williams was both charming and a superstar moment. Matt Cardle has been sick lately so it was no surprise his vocals were somewhat subdued, while Rebecca Ferguson felt overwhelmed by Christina Aguilera. It seemed that Cher Lloyd had a chance at one of the best duet performances when she kicked off with the words of "Where Is the Love?" before will.i.am stepped in as the weakest of the celebrity performers. Fortunately, the remaining three are the most powerful of this season's contestants. However, I am surprised to say that I believe at this point One Direction deserve the win.
