It looks like 10 year old Willow Smith is not only aiming for pop stardom, but also hopes to become a movie star as well. Today Columbia Pictures distributed an official press release indicating that discussion is underway for a new version of Annie starring Willow Smith to be created as a joint project between Overbrook Entertainment, in which parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are partners, and Jay-Z. Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad gushed, "The time is right to bring back Annie to the big screen. Of course, we're true believers in Willow's talent and believe she will be perfect in this role. Combining Willow with the Overbrook team that reimagined Karate Kid and the spectacular Jay-Z makes this a dream project. A decade ago, Jay-Z proved that the power of the underlying Broadway property remains, by showing how these songs could be reinterpreted for a new generation with "Hard-Knock Life." We couldn't be more thrilled to be working with our friends at Overbrook as they launch this new venture." In 1982 the film Annie received three Academy Award nominations and was the 10th biggest boxoffice film of the year.
