A look at the UK album chart this week shows a familiar name to pop fans from the 1950s in the top 10. My Heart, her first collection of unreleased material to appear since 1994, makes Doris Day the oldest living person to chart in the UK albums top 10 with new recordings. This album includes previously unreleased recordings produced by Doris Day's son Terry Melcher prior to his death in 2004. As such, it is a very moving, sentimental album for the singer.
Doris Day first hit the pop charts in the 1940s. She had 47 pop hit singles in the US including three #1 hits. These were "Love Somebody," "A Guy Is a Guy," and "Secret Love." Doris Day is also one of the biggest movie stars of all time. She was the #1 boxoffice star in the US for four years and spent ten years in the top ten. In recent years Doris Day has focused on animal rights activism. Listen to the new song "Heaven Tonight" below and Doris Day's interview with BBC Radio 2.
