Dr. Luke, one of the most successful of pop music producers and songwriters in recent years, will now have his own label. Lukasz Gottwald, aka Dr. Luke, is given credit for discovering Ke$ha, and he has worked on huge hits for Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Kelly Clarkson among others. The label will be called Kemosabe Records and is expected to launch in January 2012. Kemosabe will be part of the Sony Music family and considered one of the major label's four divisions along with Columbia, Epic, and RCA.
Sony CEO Doug Morris has referred to Dr. Luke as the "new Jimmy Iovine. Doug Morris helped fund Jimmy Iovine's founding of Interscope Records back in 1990. It has become one of the most successful of pop labels today. Reportedly, the deal with Dr. Luke also includes five years of production work exclusively for the Sony label family. Billboard quotes Dr. Luke as saying, "I plan to sign only artists that I really love and really want to work with."
