Gotye, aka Wally De Backer, was one of the biggest breakout pop artists in Australia during 2011. However, if you are a pop music fan in the US, you can be excused if you have not yet made his acquaintance. His single "Somebody That I Used To Know" is now climbing both alternative and rock radio formats in the US. It has spent three weeks on both charts. Now "Somebody That I Used To Know" is on the verge of hitting pop charts. At this time in 2013 Gotye may well be a very familiar name in US pop circles.
The song "Somebody That I Used To Know" has an appealing, skeletal pop feel. Gotye's vocals may remind you a bit of Sting. Catch the fascinating twist in direction of the lyrics when guest vocalist, New Zealand's Kimbra, makes her appearance. "Somebody That I Used To Know" spent eight weeks at #1 in Australia and is the #2 hit single of the year. Gotye released his first album Boardface in 2003, but his current album Making Mirrors, which reached #11 here on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, is his first major hit. The accompanying music video for "Somebody That I Used To Know" is eye-catching as well. Check out the video and the song below and keep your eye on Gotye in 2012.
