It does seem a bit of a risk for Saturday Night Live to feature a musical guest who has not yet released an album. However, Lana Del Rey seemed to not be just an ordinary performer. Her noirish style on the songs "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans" has generated powerful buzz among the entertainment press. Some praise the songs highly, while others question the authenticity of Lana Del Rey as a performer.
Lana Del Rey appeared last night on Saturday Night Live to perform the songs live for a television audience. Unfortunately, whether nerves or simply inexperience, the singing and stage presence were less than genuinely compelling. It instantly set off a storm of critical comments on Twitter, most notably one from actress Juliette Lewis, although her comment has now been deleted. So far there has been no major bounce in sales of "Video Games" as a result of the performance. Lana Del Rey's first album Born To Die is set to hit stores January 31, 2012. I feared that was going to happen. Too bad… Even though she’s been overhyped, there’s talent to back it up. If that talent is a collective of people or not still, the final product, the music itself, is wonderful. That’s what counts in the end.
