The voice has been stilled. Whitney Houston was found dead Saturday afternoon February 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Beverly Hills, California just hours before the annual pre-Grammy Awards party hosted by her mentor Clive Davis was set to take place. A decision was made to go ahead with the event. Clive Davis stated, "I do have a very heavy heart, and I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me for so many years." He then went on to say, "Whitney would have wanted the music to go on."
Whitney Houston was one of the most acclaimed pop singers of all time, but her life was troubled by drug and alcohol use and abuse. She is counted as the fourth best selling female artist of all time in the US with 55 million albums shipped. Between 1985 and 1988 Whitney Houston hit #1 on the pop singles chart a phenomenal seven consecutive times. Her recording of "I Will Always Love You" from the soundtrack to The Bodyguard is one of the biggest pop hit singles of all time. It spent 14 weeks at #1 in the early 1990s. Jennifer Hudson will perform a tribute to Whitney Houston at the Grammy Awards celebration.
