As long expected, Adele owned the night at the 2012 Grammy Awards. She took home victories in the top three categories, Album, Record, and Song of the Year and three other wins for a total of six. Much of the music industry was still reeling from the death of Whitney Houston the night before, but the celebration went on in tremendous fashion. Jennifer Hudson delivered a powerful and poised performance of "I Will Always Love You" in tribute to Whitney Houston. The Foo Fighters made it clear they are currently the top rock band in the business. The group won five Grammy Awards on the night and gave one of the evening's top performances tearing through their hit "Walk." Perhaps the only major surprise was the Best New Artist victory for Bon Iver. Heading into the awards it seemed rapper Nicki Minaj was favored. Sir Paul McCartney brought the evening to an end in timeless fashion with the closing suite from the Beatles' Abbey Road.
