Yesterday was Rihanna's 24th birthday and she celebrated by making an independent musical statement. When word emerged that Chris Brown may be featured on a remix of her erotically charged song "Birthday Cake," many fans and critics cried foul in protest against the message they saw a "role model" like Rihanna sending to young impressionable women. However, the pair chose to ignore all complaints and release yesterday not only a "Birthday Cake" remix with Chris Brown, but also a remix of his current hit "Turn Up the Music" with Rihanna featured. Among the content in the new vocals is Chris Brown's overtly sexual come-ons and Rihanna's profession of love. Both performers have posted responses to critics on their Twitter accounts. Chris Brown was convicted in 2009 on domestic violence charges following reported attacks on his then girlfriend Rihanna.
