In a sign of the weakening of the market for albums, John Mayer's latest album Born and Raised will spend a second week at the top of the chart this week, but the sales total is only 65,000 copies. That is the lowest total for a chart topping album since Nicki Minaj held the #1 spot with Pink Friday selling only 45,000 in the week of February 19, 2011. This is the first time John Mayer has spent more than one week at #1 with an album. Overall, album sales are down 9% compared with the same week last year. For the year to date, album sales are down 3%. Fortunately, the sales of digital singles continue to be strong. This week's total is up 6% compared with the same week last year and up 7% overall for the year. A strong June album release schedule should help to perk up sales a bit.
