Red Hot Chili Peppers have 18 songs left over from their sessions for the recent I'm With You album that they want you to hear. There wasn't room for them on the album, but the group will be releasing the songs in the form of nine double-sided singles over the next several months into early 2013. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer says, "Some songs play well with others and some songs need more attention and a little extra care. Here are some songs that seemed to want to pair up and take a later train. Keep your eye on them, they're up to something." The first pair, "Strange Man" and "Long Progression," are due out August 14, 2012. There will be another pair in September and then early October. The last of the set of nine singles is expected out in early 2013. The songs will be released in both digital and 7" vinyl formats. The cover art for the vinyl singles is by Kelsey Brookes and when combined together will create one large artwork.

The album I'm With You has not been as commercially successful among mainstream pop audiences as some of the group's past efforts. However, it has generated three consecutive top 10 alternative songs hits including the #1 "The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie." Red Hot Chili Peppers now have 24 top 10 alternative hits which ranks them #1 in the nearly 25 year history of the chart.
